A39 update….

Update from Cllr Simon Howes
Some progress on the A39 Bath Road roadwork problems thanks to the input of Cllr Diogo Rodrigues there may be more later but I am posting this now for anyone planning ahead. Thank you Diogo.
“I can now confirm that following a site meeting and so to increase local access we have asked that the road is opened to two-way traffic from the junction with Bradney Lane towards Crandon Bridge, leaving the one-way system still in place between Bower Lane and Bradney Lane. This will ensure that residents exiting from Bradney Lane do not have to follow the whole one-way route.
It is also hoped that by Monday at the latest and as the works progress towards Crandon Bridge it will be possible to move the start of the one-way order to past the A39 entrance to Mole Valley Farmers; and so also provide two-way access from Chedzoy Lane to and from Bridgwater, but still under a one way order up to Bradney Lane. This will also assist the some of the local carnival clubs with access.”

A39 Roadworks Detailed

As you may (or may not) be aware, there is a significant set of roadworks on the A39 from Crandon Bridge to the Bower Lane Junction that will affect traffic flowing through Chedzoy.

The article below is lifted from the Somerset Council Website (the link is at bottom of the page).

The work starting on the 19th of September will make the A39 one-way meaning that there will only be a left turn into Chedzoy Lane, and a left turn out. This is bound to create an increased or at least a disturbed flow of traffic through the village.

So be aware of your own requirements in regards to timings for the the period and more importantly….

“Stay safe out there folks”

The next stage of traffic controls to allow works for the planned Agratas battery facility will start in Bridgwater next month.

The works, being carried out by Agratas’s contractor, JSM Group Services Ltd, are needed to install underground power cables connecting the Gravity site in Puriton to Bridgwater’s electricity substation.

The first phase of the project on Westonzoyland Road and Bower Lane is almost finished, and further work on Bower Lane and the A39 Bath Road start soon.

  • Bower Lane: The southern section is scheduled to be closed in phases from Monday 9 September to late December.
  • A39 Bath Road: Work due to start on 19 September and run until mid-November, with a one-way system from Crandon Bridge to the junction with Bower Lane. Traffic will only be able to travel towards Bridgwater. The signed diversion route will be via Junction 23 and then south via the A38.

Diversions will be clearly signposted, and access maintained at all times for directly affected businesses and homes.

Any one-way arrangements will be lifted for the Carnival season between 30 October to 4 November. Traffic management is scheduled to be paused over the festive period, between 2 December and 2 January.

At the start of the New Year, traffic controls will also be needed on the A39 Puriton Hill. Details are being confirmed and we will provide further information when it is ready.
